Tootlepedal's Blog

Today’s picture shows the Tower of London.  It comes from the camera of my sister Mary.

Tower of London

It was another of those days which we have become all to used to when, if it wasn’t raining at any one time, it was going to start soon.  This put paid to cycling as, at the moment, I am not pedalling if it is raining which means I am not pedalling very much as it seems to rain every day.

As we had B&B guests for the sixth night running, I was able to have a late breakfast yet again with a clear conscience.   Mrs Tootlepedal is going south to visit her brother tomorrow and she will be pleased not to have any washing and ironing to do while she is down there.  After breakfast, I did a couple of mundane jobs before settling down to a cup of coffee and a good…

Inspiration Import

There are times when I feel myself needing to pull back, wind down, connect with my thoughts, reflect = ‘Chill Time’. I need time to listen to my heart and soul, nature and nothing. I get my best ideas from nothing.

Perhaps listen to some old tunes (Marvin Gaye comes to my ear right now).

Flip through photo albums; remembering when images were hard copy.

Take a drive down to the lake.

And dig out my water colour trays to allow my imagination to fly without facing a gruesome clean-up!

Today is just such a day – I am going to click a few things off my list. Tutor a lovely woman(low literacy) how to use a computer. Bask a while and quote a well-known bear …

Don’t underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering. …

For the Love of Wanderlust

I’m really excited that this is my 100th post!  I have really enjoyed this past year in a half getting to share my stories, and share things that I have found inspiring, and even more than that I have really enjoyed getting to know my readers through their comments and blogs.  I’ve acquired so much knowledge from my fellow-bloggers about traveling and I can’t wait to learn even more.  So a huge thank you to all my followers, and to all my fellow travel-bloggers.

I am leaving Friday for a road trip and I am getting so excited.  I love the week before a trip, when you’re so anxious you almost can’t sleep, and it’s so hard to get through work because you just want to be hitting the road.  I think it’s a really great time to reflect on why you travel.  I have already…

Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide

The use of shredded zucchini really pulls this together and keeps the loaf moist.

So does the tasty fat in the homemade sausage.

Zuchinni Meat Loaf

  • 1 lb beef
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 2 zuchinni, shredded
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 red onion, diced fine
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • breadcrumbs
  • Salt/pepper

Mix everything together. Add enough bread crumbs to pull the mixture into a loaf and knead a few times to pack it tight. Place in a greased baking dish and drizzle with olive oil. Rub the oil into the loaf and season with salt and pepper. Bake at 365 degrees until done, about one hour.

Cyncerely Me

We all have our friends who we do things with as a ritual… Well with my particular group of friends… We have this thing where we meet at #TheHazelInn…

The name comes from my friend James, who I call Haze, due to his hazel eyes and the actual meetings being at his place. It’s kind of our ritual to meet at his place and pretty much do a table talk.

This particular day (Friday June 20) the topic of discussion was personal goals. Each person was supposed to show up with a list of 10 goals, long or short-term and present them to the group.

Can you say fail? That totally didn’t happen. Instead we all spent the night catching up (we hadn’t seen each other in a long while) eating Papa Johns, and Neapolitan cake.

Despite the evening not going as planned, we all truly enjoyed ourselves and each…
